replacement handlebars

i'm assuming that the '08 Vulcan 900 Classic has 1" handlebars. I'm trying to put the throttle on the new bars and it just won't fit...tried dishsoap, oil, vaseline.....can not get it on.....any ideas?

When I changed my grips over to Kuryakyn, I believe the throttle should slip right onto the bar and is held on by the metal body which houses the starter and kill switches... if I remember correctly. Did you try directly comparing the diameter of the two bars against one another just to make sure they're the same???

Changing Grips

You are correct. I put both sides on my 08 Custom. The left side slides on but the throttle side is held on by the switch housing.

I had the same issue. I got a 1" outer diameter pipe and the sleeve refused to go on. I measured the stock bar and it measures JUST SHORT of an inch, off by two mm or so. I ended up going to home depot and getting a pipe that measured as close to an inch as possible w/o actually being an inch. sleeve and clamps slid right on. Good luck.
