New parts ......... help!

Hi guys,

Is there anyone out there willing / able to help a totally inept doofus?

The situation is that I have a VN900SE and have been adding bits to it over the last few months in a bid to make it mine (radiator cover, new grips, things like that) and as someone with no mechanical / handyman type ability [U]at all[U] I have been feeling very pleased with myself. Well, that feeling came to a resounding halt today.

My last arrivals from the good folks at Mean Cycles are Flame Footpegs by Arlen Ness and also the Diamond Billet Shift Peg, also from Arlen Ness.

Now, as I said before, I have little to no mechanical aptitude, and most of the parts I have ordered previously were made by Kuryakin and came with very good and detailed installation instructions which helped no end.

These things, however, do not. I cannot even work out how to remove the original pegs and shift peg, let alone install the new ones. The only advice given with the shift pegs was to consult the Service Manual for my bike. Unfortunately I don't have the service manual.

I have no doubt that this is probably a very easy job to do so .......... can any of you guys help out a poor stupid fool?

The footpegs come off easily. If you look closely, there is a pin about 3/8 of an inch in diameter the connects the mounting bracket to the peg. One end of the pin is flatten into a nail head and the other end is grooved for a semi circular C shaped snap clip. Remove the snap clip with a flat bladed screw driver or needle nose pliers being care to not allow it to fly off and never be found again. Withdraw the pin noting that there is a small spring involved in preloading the pegs to the down and forward position. Lightly grease the pin and the mounting hole in the new peg and reinstall. Note: do one side completely before starting the other side so if a question arises, you have a unaltered reference.

The shift peg you have appears to be replacement and not a cover for the existing shift peg. Looking at mine, I'm not sure how you are going to get this to work. I've never change shift pegs on any bike other than replacing the covers. Sorry.

Perhaps someone else can provide you that info.
