Engine valves

Just a quick question, checking valve clearance on my 9

Now the valves towards the back are exhaust correct and the ones towards the front are inlets , this the same for both ?

the exhausts are at the front and back of the engine there fore the valves at the front are exhausts as are the ones at the back, all the inlets are at the centre.

Hey ErnieC, glad to hear they are right on. How many miles do you have on your 2006 and did you have to make any adjustments? I have a 2007 with 70K and was wondering if I need to tackle the job?

No adjustments where needed, they where in limits, You have a range you need to be in and they where in the lower end.

I was doing a brake change and running the gas tank down and she was on the lift, so I decide to do the check.

I bought the bike used. I have found looose bolts etc on the bike in the past, so I trust nothing!

So I went for it, it was simple to do. It is more labor then anything, If you do decide to do it just becareful with the plate where your going to turn the nut to get to TDC when putting it back on, if you over tighten the bolts she will leak . So before putting the chrome plastic cover back on check for leaks.

I even got to put my leds on the frame instead of on the tank

Thanks for the advice ErnieC. How many miles do you have on the 2006? Did you have to get any special tools from Kawasaki? I may try to tackle this next winter.

Nope no special tools just some sockets, feeler gauge, torque wrench from (Harbor frieght). It was real easy, It did allow me to clean the rest of the engine with the tank off. Ahh fuel line that attaches to the tank, there is a red clip you need to take off that took a few minutes to figure it out, also putting that back on , have to watch for two tangs I call them that fit in the holes before she slips back on

She had 32k on her

Thanks ErnieC. I have had the tank off before so I know what you are saying about the fuel connector you mentioned. I have what I need then. I have 70K miles and not sure if they would be in specs with that many miles. I have not noticed any issues but I will check them for sure! Thanks again for the input.

With 70k, I would definetly check them! Also look at your cam lobes for wear. If like the 800, once they start to wear, they go away quick. Also suggest adjusting on the loose side of spec if you can.

Thanks rick for the advice. When you say loose side, do you mean on the low end or high end of the spec? Thanks!
