Cobra Sissy Bar and Luggage Rack Question

I have a 2008 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Custom. I need to but a sissy bar and luggage rack for a trip I have coming up (unexpectedly) in the next 8 days.

I like the Cobra Sissy bars, but I have a couple questions that I could really use some help with. I would like to get the shortest sissy bar possible that will handle a large sissy bar bag big enough for a trip for a few days. I'm looking at the short (14") and the tall (17"). I spoke with a Cobra rep and he told me the height measurement is from the mounting bracket to the top of the pad. He strongly recommended that I get the tall sissy bar; although I don't know if I will like the look. It would be nice to know how tall the sissy bar is measuring from the top of a stock seat to the top of the pad.

I could really use some help with this. feedback and pick is GREATLY appreciated. Almost forgot, is there any difference is either luggage rack that Cobra offers besides looks? Is any one better than the other?

Thanks in advance for the help!!!! I'll send pics of the trip!!

Here's a pic (not a great one) of my custom with the Cobra short on it... I don't think the 3 inches will make much difference with a sissy bar bag, but I know it looks a bit more awkward by itself... at least to me. The short is as tall as I was willing to go.

Thank you very much for the pics!! You and I have the same color bike.

I see exactly what your saying with the sissy bar by itself. Did you ever have a luggage rack?

I just want to confirm that you have the short sissy bar (14") and not the tall?

Thanks.

Correct, it's the short with the standard pad. I've not yet added a luggage rack...

I have a 2007 900 Custom. Originally I bought the Cobra 17" sisybar but when I received it I didn't like the way it looked, it was to tall. I returned the 17" and bought the 14" that comes with the Mini backrest pad and I didn't like the way the pad looked. I bought the standard replacement pad for the 17" sisybar and modified it to fit on the 14" bar. I really like the looks of it and my wife likes the extra support of the larger pad.

I have the tall back rest and luggage rack. My wife rides, and would not be happeir with anything less. I do not see why the short would not work with a good bag, on the back seat if you do not have the luggade rack.

If you want to see cobra 14" sisybar with a standard pad from 17" sisybar on my 07 custom, go to photo gallery under Mods and Admins, the pics with the Candy Plasma Blue bike is mine. I couldn't attach photo here for some reason.

If you intend in the future to change the seat then do not go less than the short, I just fitted a saddlemen seat and the pad on the bar just clears the new seat.
