Depends on how much you want to pay. Kawasaki DOES sell the exact same bag without the studs. It's an 'option' you can order with a non-LT. And unless you ask for studs specifically, you get the 'plain' bags with a non-LT (the studs are supposed to be part of the LT package)

Most folks opt for cheaper bags, so you rarely see them. They run around $600 from Kawasaki but you can get them on eBay under $500. May look to see if you can find them used too.

They are very good bags though. Rugged, waterproof, good looking! But Kawasaki must not be in a hurry to sell too many at the price.

saddlebags

Hey brother you might want to check these out. Not sure if this is what your looking for but they come with the mounting hardware also. Seem to be pretty nice. I am considering these as well.

This spring I'll be purchasing a set of hard leather bags from Boss Bags.

They're pricey but they are top quality, quick releasing, and come with all the bells and whistles. They've got all sorts of styles, including ones without studs. The manufacturer said anything from their size 34 to 40 will fit the VN900. They are also made in the small town I grew up in, so I don't feel quite as bad spending that much money. I will be hauling a laptop, DSLR camera, and some other rather valuable things with me on trips, so I figure it is worth the peace of mind to get quality lockable bags.
