Baron’s 34-tooth Front Pulley –Initial Impression

Had the Barons 34-tooth front pulley installed on my ’08 Vulcan 900 Classic. Just got back from a short (15 mile town/highway) test run.
Just a little background. The bike is an 08 but I just got it a month ago. The original owner kept it looking very nice (mostly the garage) and had less than 2,500 miles on it. I traded a 2002 Honda Shadow Spirit 1100 for it. That Honda is what I was used to (30K miles and 10 years).
Back to the Baron’s pulley. It came without instructions but no big deal. It looks like the OEM pulley – black and made of steel. Machining in critical places was very good. There was some excess metal that looked welded into a small spot almost as if it was put there on purpose. My guess is that maybe they spin balance these things and add some weight at a certain place – same purpose as a tire weight.
Gears are noticeably taller. Around town prior (old pulley) in stop and go traffic (30-40 mph) I was usually in 4th gear. New pulley: 35 mph in 3rd seemed very normal (much like the 1100 Honda). No noticeable loss in power taking off from a stop sign.
On the highway I made “moderate” acceleration to highway speed (65 mph) and shifted into 5th at 60 mph. This sounded very normal to me as with my last bike I was hitting 5th at 60-65 mph. At 70 mph things were smooth and I wasn’t looking for a 6th gear.
Again this was only a short ride and an initial “feel”. There were no unusual noises, no problems with acceleration, and no wanting to shift into a non-existent gear at 70 MPH. Overall I’m happy with this pulley. Now I need to ride a couple hundred miles (with some nice long uphill grades) on the interstate to get a better idea of what’s changed.

I put the Scootworks 34 tooth pulley on my 900 and really like what it did to the top end.
About 6% change in the final drive ratio. That coupled with a new Metzler tire really made the ride nicer.

Thanks for the update. I plan on replacing mine this winter with the Baron front pulley. Looking forward to the lower RPM's in 5th gear.

Garage
Cruiser900 did you stick with the OEM tire size or go with the 200. If you replaced the OEM with an oversize tire, given the overdrive front pully pulls the tire a little forward did you notice any rubbing on the front splashguard as had been reported earlier on another thread.

I stuck with the standard 180/70 15 but moved from a worn out Dunlop to a new Metzler.
