Is it me or does 950-1050rpm idle sound fast?

So, I bought my Vulcan from a guy. The idle had that slow, throaty "Harley" idle.

I bought a mech book and saw warm idle for maintenance is 950-1050. I got a handheld tach and set it for 4:2 (4 stroke, 2 cylinder).

Got to 900pms and it sounded pretty high. Maybe because I'm used to the low rpm idle.

Anyone else have any input?

low idle rpm is not good for oil pressure

Below 950 and the oil doesn't circulate properly. It only sounds fast if you've been listening to a slow idle too long. Before I bought my 900 I was riding a GS750 4cylinder. First couple months on the 900 I though she was idling too slow. But you get used to it.

Kawi shop manual spec for idle for the 900 is 1000 RPM. Lower idle RPM will starve the camshafts and valve gear of lubrication. Higher RPM won't hurt anything except fuel mileage, engine longevity (perhaps a little!), and may activate the cooling system fan if prolonged or in hot weather.
