Vulcan 900 cam chain tensioner body thread stripped

Hi, I purchased a 2006 Vulcan 900 with 9000 k's, as new, today.

Rode it 100 k's home, when I got there, oil was pissing out between the barrels on the left had side.

Turns out some one had overtighted the cam chain tensioner, and the thread in the tensioner body has broken away from the body. The tensioner was finger tight, and when I tried to tighten it, it just turned. I unscrewed it, and half of the thread from the tensioner body came out on still on the tensioner.

It appears to have had some sort of repair so that the bike could be ridden out of the shop.

Forget about what I can do, I can figure that out myself. What I need to know is: Can you purchase the tensioner body, or do I need to purchase a new barrel. ( then tensioner body appears to be a seperate part).

I have attached a photo of the tensioner bolt, and the part of the tensioner body that has broken away. It appears that the tension body pushes in from inside the cam chain tunnel.

Has anyone heard of this happening before?

Follow up to this thread... I have located the part 12048-1145 tensioner assembly, around $70. Now the question is, can this part be fitted without removing the barrel, ie just taking the head off?

From the service manual it looks as if you only have to remove the head to replace the tensioner. Also, the torque on the Cap Bolt is 20Nm or 15ftlbs. Someone really had to over torque the cap bolt to break the threads loose.

Overtorque? Given the side of the wrench head certainly one must really crank on it to tighten it down good and proper.
