Grumpy. New seat won't work with my backrest!

Just got my Mustang wide touring seat for my 09 Custom today, and it won't fit with the Kawi backrest/rack. The seat is too long, won't latch down, and digs into the backrest. Anyone else had this problem?
Not sure what to do...find a different seat, or find a different backrest. I have the SE, and the black Kawi backrest looks really good on there. Almost no chrome on the bike, so I'd need another black backrest. Any suggestions would be great.

I have the same problem. I like the look of the backrest and luggage rack so when the weather gets a little better I am going to a local shop that does custom work on seats. I would do it now but I want to take the bike with so they know what I want them to do with the seat.

Yep. Same problem. I guess I'll have a backrest for sale soon.

Figured it out. Just gonna redrill the mounting holes and move the whole thing back 2 inches. Then fill the old holes with some pretty bolts or small plastic plugs.

I looked a little closer on my lunch break, and the hole at the front is to close to the edge to drill another hole. There might be enough room if you oval it out a little, but I still have to take some measurments. Or, I've got some 3/16th X 1 1/2 inch aluminum strapping, so maybe I'll try and make some extended brackets for the front. Eather way, it'll be a couple of weeks before I can tackle it.
I'll keep you posted.

A mustang seat solution

I bought myself a mustang seat for xmas and had the same problem. Major dissapoinment. After enough thought, I came up with the following solution. I removed a dozen rivets from back (underside of seat). Pulled seat cover back. pushed foam out of the way, and using a dremel tool, cut 1-1/2 inches off the back of the seat. I also made the back corners where it was hitting backrest much larger diameter. I then stretched the cover back and used small screws to hold in place. Looks factory! No more rubbing or hard to remove/replace seat.

I joined this forum tonight because of you two with same problem. I hope you still have your seats. I can sent pictures of mine if you would like.
