Question Ticking sound?

Bought a 2007 Vulcan 900 last week. 6500 miles. I took it out yesterday for 150 mile ride. After about 40 miles I noticed a "ticking" sound while cruising. The sound disappeared under hard acceleration. Is this normal for the engine? Oil is fine. Nothing seems to be loose. No power loss.

That's just the Kawasaki orchestra directed by Vulcan, playing 'I'll Tick Tick Tick and Whine Whine Whine, but I'll always be faithful.'

Ah, yes. The Kawi tick. Perfectly normal. I drove the dealership I bought mine from nuts when I first got it, I was so worried about the valve noise.

Yes.
Very normal - 'cept for the part about taking 40-minutes to notice the noise...

I think I probably started to notice it after about 40 miles because I was out of traffic and just cruising along. Thanks for the replies. I feel better knowing the noise is "natural".

I usually use foam earplugs when I ride (see http://www.webbikeworld.com/Earplugs/earplugs.htm for advice on why, and which) The difference in how the Vulcan sounds is really quite remarkable when comparing with earplugs - no ticking, no whine, no miscellaneous various sounds from the engine - and without.
