The story:

After test riding many bikes over the last four years, I just did not fall in love with anything. I wanted something custom, unique, and no matter which bike I started with, I was going to change a lot. Since I loved my Vulcan so much, which I've owned since 2004, I decided I wanted to tear it apart.

I joined VulcanForums to research the pitfalls, and get some inspirations. I was inspired by Bald Marine's build . His build gave me the confidence that investing in my Vulcan was not a fruitless endeavor.

I am an IT guy by day, not a mechanic, or automotive tradesman. I turn wrenches on the weekends for fun, and to save money. Don't we all? I love rebuilding old things. In fact, last year I rebuilt a '97 XR400, the bike I always wanted when I was younger, to introduce my son to offroading.

The dirt bike project turned out so well it gave me leaps of confidence to tear into my Vulcan. Also, I work at a VoTech High School. So I have many coworkers and friends whom are tradesmen.

The project began in Photoshop with a student in our Art program to develop a very basic rendering of my idea to work off of.
