HD will need a new Nickname

Well...HD is shifting the majority of it's production overseas to Thailand, India and Brazil.

No doubt many if not all of you have heard all of the nicknames given to bikes made overseas. I personally have always been proud to ride 'Rice Burners'! But this post isn't about us boasting about all the nicknames our bikes have. Our HD brothers are in need of some help.

I thought it would be fun to list some of the ideas our members come up with.

I just started but here are a few:

Nut Bike (named after the Brazilian nut)

Thai Sticks (after the wacky tobacky from that country)

Buddha Bike (India...of course)

Pachyderms (India for elephant)

Ok...get 'em rolling guys, they need our help!

Harley-Davidson Inc. plans to shift more production overseas to avoid European Union tariffs on its iconic motorcycles, the latest manufacturer to reconfigure operations amid a widening global trade fight.

Harley prizes its made-in-the-USA reputation as central to its appeal to customers all over the world. But the Milwaukee company has opened factories in Brazil, India and Australia to tap international markets and hold down prices as sales falter in the U.S.

That manufacturing footprint outside the U.S. is set to expand. Harley said in a securities filing Monday the 31% tariff the EU enacted last week on its motorcycles would raise the cost of each Hog it ships there from the U.S. by about $2,200. Rather than raise prices, Harley said it would shift production of the motorcycles it sells in the EU outside the U.S. over the next 18 months.

This from WSJ

However it begs the question would a Harley made in India be an Indian motorcycle ?
or if Made in Italy would it be called an Aermacchi ? since Nippon denso already makes the starters we could have a Kawa Davidson.
though I really liked the thought of a BIG TWIN with a Thai Sticks paint scheme

i toured the factory in york pennsylvania just last week, and they discussed this very thing.
paraphrasing what they said, it was basically that they would manufacture motorcycles here for overseas, but they would be assembled there to avoid tariffs. they specifically said that no overseas bikes would be imported back to the states.

that aside, i have to say, it was a crappy tour. i rode for 2 hours so i could watch a marketing dvd, and take a tour that might have lasted all of 15 minutes. i was unable to book the steel-toe tour during my vacation because they don;t want anyone to see what they are doing with next year's models.
maybe the steel-toe tour is better, i don't know. but it's the one you have to pay for to go on, so i would expect more. the best part of the experience was when i pulled into the parking lot and looked up. there was a very large hawk flying overhead carrying about a 4' snake.

2 days later i also toured the prs guitar factory in stevensville maryland. that was a GREAT tour!. they showed you literally everything, except they didn't take you into the paint booth for obvious reasons. i had a great time, and it was free. all i had to do was book, & confirm by email. i'll probably go again someday. if any of you are in the area, and play guitar, i highly recommend it.

OK, "Rupee Doos"
Cracking me up!

"Baht Bikes"
This one may actually work! I bet HD would like this. You know everyone will mispronounce it BAT. So then we would be calling them Bat Bikes.
