What was your favorite charity run?

Whether the recipients are children, veterans, poverty-stricken, sick, or combinations of any of the above, motorcycle rides seem to be very effective and efficient ways to generate money for these causes. I'm always proud to see how the biker community shows up in the name of charity to participate in these events.

My favorite so far was the Olympia Toy Run 2012. It's a toy run that has been running for 36 years now. It's charity is the Salvation Army and literally thousands of motorcycles come out in mid-December to ride through Olympia,WA. Motorcycles from all over converge, many of them decorated to look like reindeer or Santa's sleigh. I even saw a triked 'Wing with a trailer made up to look like a giant gift box. Inside that gift box was the owner's dog, with a nice warm bed.

It's Christmas tradition in Olympia. Families line the path to watch this parade of motorcycles carrying gifts. Children stand on the sidewalk as some riders toss candy canes from their rides. They wave and watch as we roll down a course, closed off from traffic, made clear by the police.

What a great way to combine things we love; riding, camaraderie, and generosity. Here is the story for how the the 2013 edition went. http://quickthrottle.com/bikers-brav...ympia-toy-run/

Which charity events have you been in that you really enjoyed?

We're part of the planning committee for May Ride and we just held the 12th annual on May 17th. (It's always held on Armed Services Day)

It benefits Home Front San Diego which benefits our active duty military. We had 540 bikes, over 3,000 attendees. We had 80 vendors, a kid zone, food, two stages with 8 bands, two different stunt shows, a car show, a bike show, a mobile dyno, bike babes and Hooter girls.

The CHP did some slow riding demos and played along with our stunt teams: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v...type=2&theater

It's such a fantastic ride. I miss being able to go out on the ride, but I still have a fantastic time hanging around the show.

Oh, and one of the bands was "Nuns and Moses", a Guns N Roses tribute band. They were great!
