MORE beautiful scenery from western NC
Actually, this is the very eastern edge of TN.......some 100 years ago, the East TN and Western North Carolina railroad (ET&WNC) ran between Johnson City,TN and Boone, NC. During the depression, it was nicknamed "eat taters and wear no clothes" by the locals.
A pic taken (date unknown) of one of the trains very near the actual spot where my bike pic was captured.
Today, near the town of Roan Mountain, the trains and tracks they rolled on are but memories and images captured in old photographs, but this narrow pass carved in the stone remains.
