New rubber on the BUBF

My 98 Vulcan 1500A12 has just turned over 17,000 miles and the tires look like they're pretty well used up. So I'm going to replace the OEM Dunlop 491's with a set of Bridgestone Spirtfires. The Bridgestone was the other tire brand these bikes where delivered with, so I thought I would give them a try and see how they compared. I'm really surprised that the Dunlops lasted as long as they have. The tires really seem pretty hard the last couple of years so I wasn't driving the bike real hard into corners. I'm hopping the Bridgestone's are an improvement over the Dunlops.

Well, I thought I better add to this thread.
I mounted the new tires last summer and now have about 4000 miles on them. The first impression wasn't very good. The Bridgestone Spitfires seemed to have a very sharp crown the very center of the tread. more so on the front tire. It made the ride very squirrely for about first 1000 miles or so. But as the crown wore down I got more comfortable with the handling. Now it handles very nice and the tread seems to be wearing very well. When I mounted these tires I used Ride-On TPS for balancing and puncture protection. I'm very pleased how smooth it balances the tires, better than I could have done it on a balance stand and stick on weights. At this point I'm happy with performance of the Bridgestone Spitfire tires.

My '95 Vulcan 88 came with Spitfire's when I bought it used. After replacing them with the same thing, I only got around 4-5K on the rear, the same as any other affordable tire. Won't be buying them again.

Graves, I've got about 4,000 miles on them now and my back tires still looks very good. I haven't measured the tread depth, but I bet it is still at 75%. I'm an old man (70) and so I probably don't ride as hard as most younger riders. I hope to get at least 12,000 miles off this set of tires. Guess I'll know in a couple of years.
How do you rate the handling of the Spitfires?

Up date On Spitfires

When I ran the Spitfires out they had just a bite over 8000. The rear was really gone and the front still about half tread left but lots of cupping, not sure why that was, never had that much cupping on a front before.
I replaced the spits with a set of Michelin Commander II, They have over 8000 on now and I think they'll go at least another 5000 or more. So far the best tires I've ever had. No cupping on the front either.

Old topic, I know, but when running the Spitfires, did you notice any sort of roaring sound when taking turns? Almost like a wheel bearing going out?
