Question How wide can I safely use?

I want to get a new set of tires for my 08 Nomad, I'm considering Metzler tires. What I am not sure is whether or not a 180 size can be used safely used in place of the stock 170 on the rear, or will it interfere with the shaft? any ideas, comments or advice would be appreciated, thanks.
