Removing Cat. Converter 2003 Vulcan 1500 Classic

My buddy has a 2003 Vulcan 1500 made for California emission laws. It is carbureted, and I am wondering whether the jets must be changed when he takes off the catalytic converter and leaves stock exhaust. Has anyone cut out the catalytic converter and left the stock exhaust? If so, what did you have to do? Rejet? New Exhaust?

We are in Texas. How we wound up with a California bike, I'll never know. I really appreciate any feedback you guys can give.

I am in the process of unhooking mine on a 97 vulcan 750. I am no mechanic but I have had enough experience in changing pipes that you need to rejet.

I have been told that not all of these boxes are actual catalytic converters but that some are actually just empty exhaust chambers. Does anyone no for sure? If some are just empty chambers how can you tell
