I am wanting to buy a new windshield and wanting pros & cons on memphis shades, kawasaki fire & steel, or the national cycle switchblade. What do you guys like and why?
I have the Fire & Steel Nomad style shield on my Drifter. It came with the bike when I bought it last year, but I think it's been on the bike since early in it's life. It blocks the wind blast well, but it seems like it's got some sort of coating thats coming off or something. I don't know if maybe one of the former owners used a harsh cleaner on it or what, but I'll probably get another shield this summmer from Cee Bailey. You can see it a little bit in this pic from when I first got the bike home (Man, so much has changed since then!): http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Drifter/IMG_0417.jpg
I haven't ordered mine yet but I am definately getting a quick release and I want the 2 up version...I haven't got it narrowed down to make yet because I'm not familiar with them either..Will let you know what my dealer recommends...
checked with my dealer on the windshield for my nomad because some idot before me used rainx on it and it is ruined , any way the plastic alone was over $400 so unless you found one on ebay I don't think I would go that way although its a great shield
Dude! $400? Thats nuts! If the hardware is fine, go to Cee Baileys website and get one custom cut to your specs, then take the wife out for a night on the town, and when it's all over, pocket the rest of that $400. http://www.ceebaileys.com/kawasaki/index.html
Here's another windshield video I thought was worth the 4 minutes to watch (from Cruiser Customizing's Tip of The Week series). Pretty well sums up the differences in material, Polycarbonate vs. Acrylic. Whatever you decide in terms of size, shape, color, etc. you probably want to stick with Polycarbonate material.
I recently purchased a Clearview with the recurve and loving it so far. It wider than 2-3" wide than the stock and the recurve gives you an inch or so mosre wind protection. you use your own hardware and check out their blemished one too.
