Mean Streak 1600 progressive 412 help

Hi, I decided to lower the back end of my mean streak and before spending the money on a brand new pair of progressive 412 shocks I got a pair of used shocks for cheap to mount the up and test. I got the 412-4243 12" hd shocks but when I mounted them to the bike there is about a 1/4" gap on the top post. Is there supposed to be a spacer or something? Stock shocks for right but the progressive shocks can move left and right on the top only.

Im probably going to order the 12.5" brand new so its not too low but wanted to figure out the gap before I spend the money.

I would give progressive a call and check out whether you need a spacer.

Sorry, forgot to post more info. I did contact progressive, they said there is a spacer that comes with them when you buy them new. The spacer and mounting hardware can be purchased separate for $20. I ended up buying a brand new set and through their website (takes you to jpcycle I believe) and it came without the spacer. I contacted progressive again and they are supposed to be sending me the spacers free. The instructions did also mention that washers with 14mm inside diameter could be used in place of a spacer as well. I just didn't know how many I needed (tried 3 and 4 and both looked pretty close but I'd rather have the spacer).

Did you lower the front too?

I'm curious whether you'll be 'dragging' more stuff in the corners.

I would hang in there for the spacers.

I am thinking of doing the same thing let me know how you like them.

I got 444 for my classic, had to put spacers on. I put them on the inside as it measured straighter than with spacers on the outside.

I've got washers on the inside of the top acting as a spacer. Got a second package of mounting hardware from progressive but no spacers for the mean streak (just washers and sleeves that go inside the the shock to make it for the post..)

Sounds like Progressive needs to work on customer service. Let me know if the new shocks improves your handling, ride?
