Possible to reduce my reach without replacing handlebars?

So, I'm pretty sure I can just buy some risers and replace the stock bars on my mean streak with some apes, but I kinda like the stock bars...just don't always like always having to be hunched over when I ride. I'm 6'0" and have normally length arms, so it's not a far stretch. But when you're on a long ride, it's nice to be able to lean back against the back rest, throw your feet on the highway pegs, and relax.

So the question I'm asking myself is this: is there a way to add a couple inches between the bottom of the bars and the triple tree, just to move it back towards the seat a couple inches? Spacers that thread into the triple tree and then the bars thread into those maybe? Anyone ever done anything like that?

I've seen posts where sockets are used. You can adjust height by using standard or deep sockets. Be sure to used rated bolts, not just longer bolts out of a bin. I've never had drag bars so I've never done it this way....always use ROX risers with my stocks.

Search posts here or try youtube for specifics.

here's my take on things, I know you want the grips to come back more, and they can, but in my opinion not with those drag bars, you've got the wrong bars, so to me you've got only 2 options, either live with what you have (my recommendation), or replace your bars that have more pull-back or install stock bars and install risers with them, with using spacers on your drag bars it will make things less secure as you'll need longer bolts and the risk is using the wrong kind of longer bolts. To me I would opt for better security in the bars over personal comfort. Just keep what you have and ride so far and when you get tired rest your arms, that would be better than risking bars coming loose from a bolt snap.

Fair points, thanks for the input guys.

I went on a 4 hour ride yesterday and it was still quite tolerable even with the drag bars. Think I'll stick with them for a while...maybe change then out to apes in the future, but I'm happy for now.

Those were actually exactly what I had in mind. The reviews mention that it pulls the hydraulic lines for the brakes and clutch pretty tight; I'm wondering if that would create any real issues down the line.

I've heard of others using them without issue. I'm using Bad Ace Billet 2" risers. It does pull them tight, but never enough to cause an issue. Been using them trouble free about a year+ now. You can find the HR2 risers used from time to time. They are a tad cheaper on the refined cycle site.

Good to know! I went out into the garage to sit on the beast and tried to measure/test what 1/2" up and 2" back would do to change my riding position, but floating my hands in midair isn't the best or most accurate test. How much of an improvement is it on your meany?

My risers only make it go up 2". It doesn't move them back at all. But honestly, it helps your neck/shoulders. After riding a bit, I would get a pain in my upper trapezoid muscle. Especially on my right side. The risers helped reduce or eliminate that. It will feel a little awkward at first having your arms bent so much and the controls closer to you. But you get used to it quickly.

get new bars that pull up and back more
