Clutch spring upgrade?

I have a 2004 1600 Classic with about 20k on it. The clutch if fine but at the end of the stroke. My bike is stock right now but I am going to upgrade pipes, air box, and fuel processor before this spring. I was thinking I may as well upgrade the clutch springs while I have the bike tore apart.

Is the Ace Billet washer kit the same as the Judge washer kit?

Do I replace the washers and the spring?

Do I replace the spring with a Mean Streak spring and what spring do I order for my 2004 Classic?

Thanks,

Dan

If you have 20K on the bike the chances are your clutch spring is in good shape and will last you quite a few more miles. As far as being at the end of the pull, that's the nature of the wet clutch on the bigger Kawasaki's. Changing it out will bring your pull closer to the handle, but only for about a month and then you will be right back to the same pull as before. Also you do not need the judges washers on your model. Kawasaki introduced their version in 2004 so you already have clutch spring protection oem. The things you have read about the meanstreak spring and judges washers pretty much apply to the earlier 1500's. There is no way to adjust the pull on your clutch other than on the handle there are about 5 settings that let you adjust length of pull. But be careful, I have noticed that changing the settings can make your clutch feel like its slipping.

Thanks! That helps. I was afraid if I upgraded that the extra HP would cause slippage.

Garage
check your stock OEM clutch spring against the OEM spring for a 2004 1500 E classic, if they are the same number, then order a clutch spring for a 2003 mean streak, a 2002 or 2003, they are a bit heavier, in 2004 they went with same spring in all later vulcans i think

A few years ago Kawasaki changed to the Meanstreak spring for several of their models. So if he orders the OEM one shown he will be getting the Meanstreak spring. Same holds true for the 1500 models. Here is your proof of the pudding.
