Saddlebag locks

I'm shopping for a set of Nomad stock saddlebags for my VN1600. Lots of them to be found on ebay, but almost all of them without locks, even at prices for the bags which are higher than the aftermarket bag choices. I assume the locks are out so the seller could open the bags. I also assume some more standard locksets can be installed if the key does not match the ignition key on the bike.

I know the locksets on BMW saddlebags can be easily re-keyed to whichever key code is required as i did it myself for the salvage bags I mounted on my 2007 R1200RT. Does anyone know how easy or hard it is to rekey the Nomad locksets to match the bike ignition key?

I'd consider aftermarket bags like Mutazu (like the RS model) but some videos I've seen show the bags can easily be bumped open even when latched. Plus I don't like the lights on the RS bags, I'd prefer the bags without the lights.

Have a Set of Viking Hard Bags on my Vulcan S, they lock automatically and they cannot be pried open without complete destruction. The Brackets they come with work Well and are Low Profile, can be adapted to any bracket as they are not drilled. The hardware (main bolts) are low grade junk. I upgraded to Metric 12.9 Hardened Bolts and Havenít had a problem, I also needed shorter bolts for my application. The Construction is ABS Plastic, Either Painted, matte ,or Wrapped in Leather.

I was fortunate enough to locate a set of used bags that came with a key and was able to re-key (re-tumble) them myself.

Thanks, that's what I needed to know. In case I find a set of Vulcan bags with locks (that don't match the ignition key on my Vulcan) then I can rekey the saddlebag locks to match my ignition key.

I found a set of matched bags on craigslist for a decent price, but the seller says he doesn't have the key. I do have one bag without a cover so i know the cover is mounted with four allen head screws to the box. As long as I can get the boxes open from the bottom and get the lids out far enough to get the lock cylinders out I can get the boxes open. Then hopefully I can buy a key at the Kawwy dealer and reset the tumblers to match the new key.

Add on: has anyone had success taking a locked saddlebag (no key) to a locksmith to have them pic the lock open and then make a new key for the bags? Or maybe buy a key blank from a Kawwy dealer and have the locksmith cut the key to match the lockset?
