Fuel light coming on early

I have an 04 1600classic .the low fuel light comes on at around 3.5 gal. Is this normal? Having a 5 gal tank i thought it might wait till 4 gal?

Have an 06 MS 1600... 4.5 US gallon (17 litre) gas tank.... Pretty well stock bike .....

I was on a 330km/~200 mile road trip/cruise yesterday... Solo trip... No gear.... Started with tank full of premium. Mostly HWY but some country roads.. So average speed I estimate ~60mph... ... Low fuel light came on during the return leg... And I happened upon a gas station almost immediately ... Filled it back up... And it took 10.4 litres or ~ 2 1/4 US gallons ... So it went off with approx 1 3/4 US gallons in tank...

... Burned total of 16.5 litres on the trip... 5 litres per 100kms which converts to 47mpg ... First major road trip for me on it ... Love the ride...

Ride safe !
