considering a vulcan, need advice please...

Hi everyone,
im looking at a 2006 Nomad 1600 with 115000KM on it for an excellent price (under 3K canadian). I have a few questions Im hoping I can get some feedback on...

- Is 115K a lot for a nomad? (thats about 75000 miles or so), what sort of life can I expect out of the engine?
-What should I look for and ask specifically when I go see the bike? anything to watch out for with this year/model?
-Can someone tell me, is this bike carborator or fuel injected?
-If I change the pipes, are they a direct swap with vance&hines, or do I need to do anything else (ie rejet the carbs, or whatever... etc...)?
-Do you find this bike comfortable and powerful enough? I had a vstar 1100 and it was missing some juice for me...
-anything else you can think of ?

I only really want to bike to last me 5-6 years and I'll probably do about 5K KM a year on it. Im going for low budget right now and will buy my dream machine when I have more scratch.

Thanks a lot in advance, im sure I'll think of others but I think those are the main ones.

Appreciate the help!

I can only comment on the obvious, thats alot of miles to me, an '08 should be fuel injected, price is where it should be, i think you should be able to find a similar bike with less miles on it, especially these next couple of months, for around $3000-$3500. They have plenty of power, more than your vstar, the nomads weigh more, not particularly quick off the line, but torquey in higher gears, you do what you feel is right, but consider shopping around abit more too......ride on.....

Well.....I'm not a 1600 owner nor a huge bike aficionado...but I think 75,000 is a lot for a used bike. The only 2 things that would make me think differently would be that for a 2006 he must have ridden it A LOT and that means some highway miles-but I could be wrong. The other would be a record of services or repairs he has done over the life of the bike.

As an example...I got the bike in my sig for $2800 USD. It had 33,000 on it. Honestly, I think you can do better...........

If the basic maintenance has been done on schedule, the bike still has a lot of life in it. Is this guy the origanal owner? If so and it looks well kept, it should be good, I'd prefer a higher milage bike to one that only gets road a couple times a year. I have only owned 2 bikes in my life, and bought both new as leftover models, an 05 800 classic that I still own and ride occasionally with 110k miles on it. Its dependability is a big contributer to me buying a 12 Voyager 2 years ago last July, it now has over 40k trouble free miles. There is a fellow in Canada that has over 260k miles on his Voyager and I think he is still adding miles to it.

Too many miles. I would not think twice about a bike with 75,000 miles. As posted above you can do much better.

Thanks, a lot of you seem to think I can do better, but I have not found anything better in terms of price, the guy is asking 2,995$ Canadian (which is like 2500$ USD or so). I think I can probably strongarm him down to $2500 CDN (or maybe less). I have not seen any 2006 or more recent for anywhere near $3000 cdn, the only others I have seen are '08's with 35K and those are going for ~$6500 CDN and more.

I found a premeux fairing with stereo and vance and hines pipes and a mustang seat for $1000 CDN (for all 3 items) for the 1600 (value around $3500 new) and so, if I'm able to get the bike dressed exactly as I want it for around $3500 CDN isnt that a good price? Or you still think its too high?

Let's say for the sake of argument it's a good price, what should I really look out for when I go see it? Are there specific gaskets or seals or anything on this year/model/bike that I should inspect? I plan on buying the carproof today. I know there are younger bikes out there, but the price is what keeps driving me towards this one, especially with the $1000 for the 3 items I found.... It's literally half the price of the others.

Found a 2008 with 35k km for $5500, would you spend the extra $2500 for 35k km vs 115k km and 2 years difference in age?

But I would make sure that 2006 is in good shape. Look listen and feel. And ask for service and maintenance records.
