Talking Forum Creeper, Looking for some tips!

Hello all!

First, I have to admit, I have been creeping these forums for several months now... and I am surprised to see how many others here feel the same way I do about this bike! I bought this bike last winter on a whim, and it is the BEST bike I have ever owned (xj650, xs650, Shadow 1100, goldwing, venture, on and on throughout the years, I do not like Harley, lol). When I bought this bike, I was honestly just looking for something bigger than my buddies 1800 so he could stop lording it over me. But when I started riding the V2K WOW! I fell in love! I ended up putting on almost 12k miles this year through the midwest and the rockies, and the V2K was amazing through it all. I still catch hell for not owning a Harley, but when I tell people that mine is a 125, they lose a lot of their hot air... Anyway, as I said, i'm in love. Now my mechanic tells me my compression is getting to the mid to low end, at 52k miles, and it might be time for a rebuild. On any other bike, I would just say trade it in and get something else, and I have gone around and test drove other bikes recently, but there's nothing that comes close to the V2K in my humble opinion. So after a few beers, and ALOT of thinking, I decided I am going to stick some money into this beast and make it into my own perfect motorcycle. As I said, the mechanic is recommending a rebuild, (which he estimated at $2,000) so is there anything else I should do as long as the engine is pulled and i'm already putting money into my V2K? Its coming into winter now, and this is the time to do it!

For reference, I already added an ultimate seat with backrest and passenger seat, freedom radius exhaust, barron big air intake, and fi 2000 fuel processor. I have plans to use a buddy of mine to replace my current corbin fairing with a custom frame fixed fairing I was going to make myself as a winter project, then maybe add some audio, replace the rear shock (its a little spongey with the wife on and she is tiny), add stretched saddlebags, rearrange the rear fender, relocate the license plate, add higher handlebars, and replace the turn signals and headlight (as my headlight has some sort of metal dust in it and is extremely ineffective, I've taken it apart several times and blown it out to no avail). Anyway, I know this is long winded, but if anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate any specific part numbers with them, so I can start researching right away! Thanks again to everyone for the wealth of knowledge on this forum!

My post appears to me to be in the V2K section, or am I seeing it wrong? If not can you move it? Thanks!

Yup, it is in the right place! I just wanted to comment on your Harley buddies lol..... I was in Sturgis several years ago and a Harlista walked up, giving my bike the slant eye the whole time.. (I have that Baron BAK plate on the engine that says V-Twin 125 ci). She said "I guess what you lose in class you can make up with horsepower...." Now, when I look in the mirror, I say that line to myself allllll the time! lol

Sounds like you have done everything planned out. I have 90K on my 04 and it is puffing some blue smoke now and again. I was planning on triking the beast due to some issues with my own landing gear (right leg has metal fatigue) so I will do the complete engine and trannie then.

As to the suspension issue, check out some of the old posts for air shocks etc. When my monoshock started to let me down I caged the spring and pulled it apart. I had my machinist make me a 1" spacer for the "top" to increase the preload on the spring. Now I can have the preload rings at nearly the lowest setting and it holds me and the missus up (even with all her luggage) just fine.
