The Pop 'n Bang....AKA: don't ride on my pipe side.
Hello fellow V2Kers. I've researched the threads, and I am aware that the decel pop is part of the fun when owning a V2K.
It's never been a huge deal for me, it only got really bad once when my front cylinder exhaust flange loosened up on the road and I blew the crush ring. Orville Redenbacher had nothing on me.
That being said, I recently changed my intake from Kurakyn Hypercharger to a BAK. (90% reduction in right knee bruising)The pipes are HK's, and I have a PC-3 that came pre-loaded with a map that I can only assume comes from the PO getting it dyno'd. The map base is for HK Big Shots and a Thunder air box. I compared the installed map with the one from the PC site and it's drastically different.
Anyhoo, when I first took her out after changing the intake I loaded the base map for the HK/thunder air to see how it would go, it popped constantly and loudly. I assumed it was still too rich, so I tried a Kurakyn Hypercharger map (based on the logic the KH has far lesser air flow so it should lower the fuel ratio accordingly to match).............Can't say for sure, but it may have been worse.
I am now back to the original custom map that came with the bike, and it's just as nasty as the base HK/Thunder air map. I went on a rally, and felt like a heel to everyone behind me. (A couple of guys said they actually thought it was there bikes, I'm so damned loud).
PS: One young fella riding an old Yammie Virago came up and said that when I cracked the throttle he just about crapped himself it startled him so much, and the pops came out like gunshots.....lol. Loud pipes save lives!
So, to all you who are more in the know: Do you think "lean pop" might apply here? I always though popping=rich, but might I have it backwards?
