Winter wonderland

Had to put the big bike into storage for the winter already. Seems like I just took it out last week, but when the rain starts to get hard it is time to find a warm spot to park. With all the crap weather this year, family issues, work etc I only put 6000mi on. Never even put the battery into my 900C AARGH! Well, next year?

Danad -- my heart bleeds Kawi green for you, dude! For us here in Palm Springs, in the desert, it's just now getting to be really good riding weather. The triple digits lasting all day and into the night are pretty much over. My commute to work is at about 68 degrees with the sun coming up over the mtns. that ring Rancho Mirage; my ride home is in the low 90s -- bearable -- as I watch the sun sink behind the mtns. that ring Palm Springs. And it'll be this way now until early June of next year. I'll be thinking about you...and you do the same for me, please, next summer, when you're riding around Alberta and here it's 120+ for days in a row in August!

Victor

The only thing there that gets to triple digits is the price of gas lol. I have never been to Palm Springs (no refineries there) but I did spend 5 years in SE Texas where temp and humidity get to triple digits at the same time. Cold weather is the norm here.

Our base of ops was just out of Beaumont but I have been in every refinery on the gulf, including a few in Mexico. Spent the better part of a year in Pasadena and Baytown. Hot and sweaty lol. Actually happy to see 4 or 5 ft of snow after that stretch. We pioneered a technology for cleaning cokers, fired heaters, reactors etc up here in the oilsands and then brought it south. Trained a bunch of Texans to take it over and came back to the cold. Loved that area (except for the heat)! Hard working and patriotic folks. Used to spend some of my off time down at San Jacinto and the battleship. Parking lot was always full and almost all were Texas plates... Hunkered down thru a few storms while I was there but nothing like these last couple! I heard that most of the refineries are coming back on line, amazing! I'll take the forest fires and the crippling cold (and short riding season) over sideways rain any day!

Man, you must have been right in the middle of that mess! I worked on the Valero cokers in the 90's so I can't remember exactly the lay of the land, but I don't recall much high ground anywhere around there! Water wings on that V2K......

I'm in Lumberton, just North of Beaumont. Most of the plants here are all back online, though about 40% operational. I've been in and out of them the last few weeks. There's a few of them that are a mess and having a lot of trouble getting them back operational. Some of the units come up and have to be shut right back down.
