Rear Pulley Hub Bearing?

Ok, i got my front pulley off, dropped swingarm ect to change the belt and found something unusual in the pulley hub, the bike is an 2004 model and only has the single bearing, so my question is why did kawasaki put an unsealed bearing in the hub but used sealed wheel bearings?

Has any one else experienced this? The bike has 34000kms on the clock, and the guy who owned it before me said he only changed oil and tyres so i doubt if (bearing) has been changed, anyway i replaced the bearing with a sealed one so i'll just keep an eye on it and see how it goes, but i'm starting to wonder why some people had bearing failures, could it be lack of lubricant (mine was dry as a bone) from being unsealed or is it because of to much stress from belt tension?

Never seen an unsealed wheel bearing at the beast, good you replaced it.
I also still have the single bearing hub, doesn't matter, I replace the bearings at every tire change.
Bearings are cheap.
And most time they fail due to excessive use of pressure washer.

I don't think i'll be rushing in to do the twin bearing/pulley hub upgrade either, the new bearing cost $11 and took me about 10 mins to do, i had the wheel off anyway so it was no extra work, gently removed the seal and snap ring and reused them also, works out pretty cheap at $11 every 30000kms, hate to think what Kawasaki here in Australia would want for the twin bearing hub and spacers etc, they want well over $1000 just for a drive belt.
