5th gear Resistor Mod

I did a search and see that a few people here have done the 5th gear Resistor Mod.

http://vn2000.com/pages/resistor_mod.htm

For those that have done it, what is y'alls opinion on it?

My understanding it only works with 04's & 05's due to ECU changes made after and that it tricks the ECU to having a wide open throttle sensor for quicker throttle response.

that's kinda my understanding also Paul.

I hadn't heard about this yet, since it really only affects the 04 and early 05 models. (Although, apparently it will help all years, just not to the same extreme).

From what I understand, a chip in the bike limits the amount of hp gears 1-4 are allowed to produce.

I guess Kawi thought the bike had TO much power, so they limited it. Only it was TO much of a limit at first. With the 06 and 07 models, they increased the amount the gears could produce. And from what I understand, with the 08+ models, it was toned back down some (but not to the extent of the 04's).

so anyways, the procedure is a way to trick the chip into always thinking it's in 5th gear.. so it's not clamping down on the power.

Maybe Bare will explain it in layman terms...

A little more explanation and pics of the actual proceedure would be nice for those of us that are electrically/mechnically challenged, would help me. Since I have a 05 I would definetly be interested in doing this if I was sure I was doing it right.

Go down to post #14.

This spells it out pretty good. I just got my V2K ('04), so I'm not gonna do this for a while. I'm sure I will eventually, though. It's dirt cheap and looks easy (I've always gone for that).

My biggest fear is when I die, my wife will sell all my guitars for what I told her I paid for them.

Interesting. I read the entire 6 pages of that thread. I understand more what the are talking about.

if you read the entire thread, it will talk (and show) a harness that can be used instead of cutting/splicing engine wires (You cut and splice on the harness instead). Cost $35, but makes it so you can plug/unplug it.

My bike is an 04, so I'm going to attempt this.

I bought this bike in early 05 (i'm original owner). Strange I never heard about this before.

06 07 only advances 25 degrees where as 04 05 advances 51 degress 08 09 10 advances 43 degrees. they could not make up there minds..engineers, designers, warranty dept and sales where like the Goverment could not agree.
2008 + no resistor mod necessary the ignition advances the same in all gears, it seems KAWA learned from us.

In short the 430 Ohm resistor replaces all the resistors in 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th gears, result the ECU thinks it's in 5th gear in any gear Walla more power in the four gears.
I have lots of resistor anybody need one send me a self address/stamped envelop will mail you one. Call me or Email me 803-981-2911 or [email protected]
