I'm hot!

As the weather is warming up, I'm getting hot and sticky inside my jacket.

I opened vents on the chest and back, and opened the cuffs so they scoop air down the sleeves, but when I get where I'm going, I still have to peel the sweaty thing off and hang it to dry.

Wearing a long sleeve shirt helps, but I think I need a good mesh jacket for riding in hot weather, so I don't have to carry extra shirts around with me.

I've used Google to look for a good jacket, but there's an overwhelming number out there.

Would anybody care to recommend a good jacket? You know. Something I might enjoy sliding down the road in?

This is what I currently use:

Thanks in advance.

I wear an Olympia Motor Sports Recon 2 jacket that I am very pleased with.

We also have a Fieldsheer for my wife that is a decent jacket for the money.

My Fieldscheer only lasted for about 1 season (wearing it about 1/2 of that season) and the wind had threads and pulls popping out of it all over. To tell the truth, it looked like a cat had been at it, but we have no cats. (nor do I want any, so no need to offer me free kittens and the like, LOL)

Maybe I was just the lucky one of the batch, and the rest of their jackets don't do that, I'm just quoting my experience. Either way, I won't buy another to test the theory...

I've had really good luck with my Joe Rocket Phoenix 4.0 mesh with armor. Going into my 3rd season with it. This model has now been replaced with the 5.0 model, so you may be able to find some on close out, or simply go with the 5.0.

bullwinkle, try hyperkewl by www.techniche-intl.com This is an evaporative vest that you can wear over a shirt and/or under a mesh jacket. It holds 3/4 gallon h2o and will knock down your core temp 5-10f when you ride in the desert under a scorching hot sun. It works.

I ride a lot in the desert and you need someway of coping with the sun. I used to stop at any stream, dismount, takeoff boots and lay in the stream fully clothed. after my eyeballs could refocus. I'd ride off dripping wet for 15min of evaporative cooling, it was down right nipply. 15 miles I'd be bone dry.

these wetvest last about 45min in front and 90min backside and they do cool you down.

I got mine from an online club out of washington state area for $35. CycleGear.com has them for $40.

Joe Rocket. They make a mesh jacket I bought at the International Motorcycle Show several years ago, it holds up well although I have not slid in it (yet). I have read about owners crashing in this jacket and coming out of it unhurt and no abrasions.

The ventillation is EXCELLENT.
It is called the Phoenix, here is a link to Amazon for it, just for reference purposes (I try to buy bike stuff from bike companies, but if you are shopping for price, Amazon is a good reference point):

I also own a custom made perforated jacket with stretch panels on the insides of the sleeves. It was made in Japan by Kushitani after I was measured down in Torrance, CA. Perforated leather jackets are great for all around riding. You can take along a rain jacket to wear over it if it gets colder, so it is a good 1-2 punch for long distance riding.

Yeah, a group I used to ride with did a group buy for cool vests. I chose not to participate. I do just fine with the heat! Upper 90's today and I can't wait to get on the bike for the commute home!
