New to Cruisers. Pricing questions

In 2006 I drove a Kawasaki Ninja 250. It was stolen in 2008. I've recently fallen in love with a new 2009 Vulcan 900 Classic, burgundy.

The dealer was asking approx ~$7500 after "fees" for it. I countered with $5500, and they went down to $6400 out the door.

I'm wondering if an offer of $5800 cash will be laughed at, or if I might be able to get out of the shop with a bike, and at least a helmet (would like a jacket too). I can't really afford more than $6000, but I figured if I can bring in a nice roll of cash I might be able to get away with $5800.

What do you think?

I bought my 2009 900 Classic "New" in March for a bit less out the door than the $6400 price they quoted you. Could depend on the area...but I think you could do better than $6400. I could be wrong...

I'm in Lubbock, Tx. They've only got two '09s left, so I'm hoping they'll take my wad of cash.

Did you get anything extra with the bike at your price?

there is always room to wiggle, but $6.4k is not bad, and the classic 900 is a good all around motorcycle...

local dealer's OTD pricing page for comparison:

No...I got it for $6200 if I remember right.
Oh, that was the saddlebag time, so I got the saddlebags thrown in...

Play hard-ball, there are always other 900's out there if you are willing to wait or travel.

I'd stick with your original offer. They'll take a hit on their margin to get the bike out the door if they really want to move it.

Money talks ... offer them 6g's. Price reductions are factory based. The deal has to be a win win situation.

Margins are already minimal at best. Shops make more on the sale of used bikes than they do on new.

As i flipped into 5th, i couldnt remember a damn thing she said
