Second time around/mid life crisis

Hello fellow vulcan riders!
About 15-20 years ago i rode a vulcan vn750 for about 2 years.
I never did get my class 6 as the people i was riding with had theres.
After a while the friends i was riding with sold there bikes and i sold mine.
Fast forward 15-20 yrs.
I'm now 47 and lots of people at work are buying bikes.
I found a good deal on an 1988 vn1500.
The bike had not been rode for 2-3 years as he bought a newer bike.
I rebuilt the clutch system, fluid and replaced the clutch spring(46,000km)
I don't think he had ever changed the clutch fluid as it was dark brown and starting to gum up on the clutch lever piston.
I took the MSC here in calgary and passed my class 6 last week.
I now have 70km on the bike.
I'm trying to get used to the clutch as it is still a bit grabby.
Fine line between gas and clutch. LOL!
The more i ride, the better the clutch is reacting/feeling.
Looking through the posts, i think the more i ride the better i'll get with the clutch.
Below is a pic of the bike, It is in great original shape, shifts nice from 1-2
It's supposed to rain all week here! it might be nice on the weekend LOL.
Talk at you later.
Barry.

Howdy Probird; 2nd time, 3rd time, doesn't matter my friend, as long as you ride that's all that matters. Glad to see another rider coming back to the ranks.

New to the forum here. Names Chuck. I'm from North Alabama.

I bought a 2002 VN 750 from a neighbor this past spring. First bike I had owned in 20 years as my work, children, and RC truck racing have always kept me busy and broke! I first had the bike repainted, then new rear tire, a battery, K&N filters, speed o'meter head, Saddlemens seat, and a Protec drivers backrest. Good thing the bike was in good shape, uh! Ofcourse the seat and backrest was just for comfort. THEN,,,,, in the Alabama heat, while riding it started getting something greasy on the rim during long rides. Turns out to be grease coming out round the rear diff and the rim from being over greased. BUT the mechanic told me of a common problem on this bike. Lack of greasing the diff pinion and the drive shaft coupler,,,, OH CRAP!!!! Eats the spines off!! Mine was hanging on by a thread. Second one he has replaced this year. I hope to pick up the bike tomarrow after the new $1100 (plus labor) diff is installed. Called 30 cycle salvage yards on the east side of the country and could not find a used one with a good pinion. Good thing I love this bike.
