Long time no post! Just getting the bike out of winter storage and it fires up like a champ. It should though it's been stored in a floor heated shop for a few months. One thing I noticed when I fired it up was that there seemed to be what I would describe as lifter noise. Almost like sticky lifters. I shut down because I didn't want to damage anything. Just wondering if any of you have experience the same thing? It's a 2009 1700 Voyager with just under 2000 km on it.
Mine did the same thing, 7900km, rear cylinder as much as i could tell. Start it up, let it idle till hot. Just dont rev it up , leave the throttle alone. Let it cool off a bit and repeat over a day or two. After three starts over two days mine went back to normal. I think sitting for 5 months with no start they loose prime and take a bit of coaxing to reprime up. Each time you start it they get a bit more oil loaded. Next winter each chinook im going to start her up and maintain the oil in the lifters.
Same thing here when i started it lifter noise then i remember from my 2004 classic 1500 did the same thing after the first 100 km back to normal don't do hi rev's just back road driving for the first tank of gas, i think to with the gas being 5 months old could be part of the problem even with the stabelizer in the gas i think 5 months is to long in the service manual it says to empty the tank take the spark plugs out spray an oil coating in to the cylinder turn the bike a bit to coat the cylinder and then put back plugs, but to do this you have to take the gas tank off because the plugs are under the gas tank to much of a job store for the winter my bike is in a heated garage no problem just put stabelizer in the gas tank does the job!
I ride a 900LT, it still has the "KAWI TICK". I believe, it always will. It also is one of the reasons I like the bike. Unrefined and noisy=lotsa character.
Synthetic oil will "help" immensely......aftermarket pipes will help completely.

damn! we miss all the fun down here south of the artic circle. these moderate temps force us to have to ride our bikes all frigin 12mos. we get no down time and have to have spares just to do maintenance on these rigs.
