How to check oil level?

Hi Guys,

I just bought an '03 1600 and can't figure out how to check the oil level. Can someone help me out?

900 has a sight glass on the bottom left side, not sure on the 1600

The bike has to be level to check the oil (not leaning on the kickstand). With the 900 I can lay on the ground and push the bike up to level (careful not to push it too far!), I don't know how easy this is with a 1600. You can get one of those extending mirrors and sit on the bike and check it with the mirror. Or get someone to help you.

Go to the auto parts store and get a mirror on a telescoping wand. It lets you sit on the seat and maintain control of the bike while checking the oil level. I think I got mine for $2.49.

Kneeling on the ground balancing the bike with one hand scared the heck out of me!

Or wear your helmet as you squat beneath your bike. Its not that precarious but the thought has occurred to me how foolish it would be to get squashed by your bike while checking the oil. Tom
