The recently revised bulletin cautions against installing passenger tires on motorcycle rims. It explains that motorcycle tires and corresponding motorcycle rims are designed with a bead seat diameter and flange contour that are different than passenger car tires/rims, therefore any attempt to mount a passenger car tire on a motorcycle rim may cause inflation pressure loss or the beads to break with explosive force. The result could be serious injury or death.
“Not every tire is meant for any rim,” said Charles Cannon, RMA president and CEO. “Caution needs to be taken to ensure motorcycle tires are mounted on motorcycle rims only,” he continued.
And all that may be true....where is one single bit of proof that there is an issue. Has any one experienced a problem such as this (1st hand knowledge only)? Thousands, 10's of thousands prolly 100's of thousands success stories and i haven't heard of this being an issue. I'm not saying it can't or doesn't happen, just that it is not a known problem.

There are many who have not been able to get a car tire to seal on a motorcycle rim. Just because others have done it does not mean it is a safe thing to be doing.
Remember "Just beacuse you can does not mean you should".
The way I see it is I am at enough risk out there on my Nomad now. Why on earth would I go and ask for more possible risk? Especially when their is really nothing to gain, other than a certain look.
Car tires are not meant for motorcycles, simple as that.

The relatively low cost and durability of car tires can be powerful motivating factors for Darksiders, especially those who ride many miles per year.
That said, I, personally, would not risk the potential safety concerns and handling issues of using a car tire on a motorcycle. If Darksiders can get away with it however, then more power to them!

Running a car tire on your scoot.... it's your choice.
I like the better rear tire braking on dry or wet pavement, three times the mileage or better, one third the cost. It's not a "certain look" thing. Most people don't even notice. And yes, some T Roadsters in the 50's and 60's had motorcycle tires on the front....
50 years and at least a million miles on car tires... I never had any problem with a single car tire on a motorcycle, and only one flat tire on the rear.
To do or not to do.... your choice do not let anyone tell you otherwise....

Let's just consider that bit of information as good advice from a knowledgeable source. I don't know if anyone has had that happen to them with a car tire on a motorcycle or not, but I, for one, do not want to take that chance. Motorcycles are designed to be run with motorcycle-specific tires. But as it turns out, apparently car tires do work, and good for the guys that use and like them. It's just not for me. The way I look at it, the only motorcycle that should have a car tire on it is a trike, and they have two!
For those darksiders and possible future darksiders, just know that while the chance of a bead failure is probably slim, it could happen.
