Default May need new motor (for '98 1500)?

Hey folks.

Let me start by saying I am new to vulcan ownership and motorcycle ownership in general and I don't know much about motors.

I was hearing some clackety noises, so I brought the bike in; turns out I was nearly completely out of oil! (I had checked, but apparently hot oil had burned a line onto the oil window. So I thought it was full. Effing stupid.)

Anyway, they "might" be able to get things (valves?) moving in there again (something to do with bleeding the air?) but they might not.

If not, I'll probably have to buy a new motor.

Any recommendations?

Can I buy another year, or does it 100% have to be a 1998? I saw a 1999 for sale here (with a bad transmission — will that matter for what I'm dealing with?)
