Fuel shut off valve

How do you guys drain your carbs for winter storage when there is no off on the fuel shut off valve?

empty the tank into a gas can, run the bike til its empty and dies

If I understand correctly, the fuel will not flow without the vacuum from the engine. The only way it will flow without vacuum is in the pri (prime) position.

There is a bowl drain on the bottom of the 800's carb.

I was under the same impression but haven't found out the hard way yet

I have taken the tank off this way, mostly full. Without the vacuum you only get a few drops at first, but does not all flow out

Good to know, looking to upgrade air cleaner and get rid of EPA stuff and my buddy that rides a Harley said he thought it would free flow when taken off

Thanks guys, its too bad they didn't put an off position on the shut off valve. I guess I could put a shut off valve in the fuel line if I really wanted to.

Just below the petcock I installed a glass fuel filter. The kind you can get at autozone. It has kept a lot of crap from the tank out of my carb.

the ON position is also the Off position when there is no vaccum at the vaccum line, which is the whole reason for the vaccum line....and harley guys aren't the best souces of information regarding vulcans...
