I am a huge fan of the patriot guard. I love this great country, but, I am often disappointed by many of the people in it with the treatment (whether negative or just apathetic) towards soldiers who have come home, and the disgusting treatment (and the way it's turned into a political thing) that happens to the families of many fallen soldiers. I don't get to be as involved as I'd like, but every time I get a chance to help them out, stand in a flag line, attend a funeral or go on a ride with them, I am so moved in the ways they are able to show the family that people really, really care about the loved one they lost. The families sacrificed as well, they raised that brave young man or woman, they supported them, and now they've lost them. We can't do anything for the hero, but we can do a lot for their families.
It's not something all of us can do, especially with there usually being short notice and often being at inconvenient dates and times for working people, but, I really encourage people to take a chance to go on a PGR ride. You don't have to be a member, or be invited. Just show up, and show up for the right reasons (to show respect and honor to a fallen soldier and to show the love of grateful Americans to a grieving family).
