Tyres, went back to OEM and the bike handles again

I've had Avon's on my Voyager for the past 20000 km and although they held the road well and lasted a while I had constant handling and wobble problems. On downhill twisties I would end up on the wrong side of the road or start heading bush. In short it was a bitch to handle. The dealer suggested I go back to stock tyres and in the end I did.

Well I now have a bike again wobble gone handling back to what you would expect.

But I must credit the Avon's they were tough and even on my last run home after a tyre killing puncture with the help of self sealing gunk they got me home 1000 km before failing.

This is very interesting to hear. I have just a week ago finished going through a tire swap for the same issue. To make a long story short, I put a set of Metzler880's on my Voyager and the front end was terrible. Shake and wabble that was not only bad, but I would also say unsafe. I put on a set of Mich Comander II's and although it is a 100% better, there is still a slight lets just say issue, the stockers were perfect and I miss the way my bike felt. Makes me think the Voyager was built around the tire.

No wonder you guys only get 38 mpg using that crap. It's not gasoline!
Isn't our gas pathetic enough without mixing more non-energy producing junk into it?

I've never heard of Seafoam here in Australia, however I did at various times have a product called slime, a hole filler in case of puncture, and a balancer, which did not work when I did get the puncture. Yep that was the claim

In the end I cleaned it out of the front tyre as the wobble got worse.

It does seem that the bike really likes the OEM tyres for what ever reason, maybe it really is a case of "a match made in the design rooms

" which is a pain in the wallet.

Sorry, it's kind of a bad joke around here; guys dump it in the gas tank, crankcase, and I think some even use it for mouthwash!

I know this thread has gone off course, but for those who are wondering, I am running the excedra max on the front and an Elite 3 bias ply on the rear. Works great. I did try the E3 on the front but didn't like it.

I will try a Commander II on the rear next time.
