Strange Noise

I have an 04 V2k that just started making a very weird clicking/clanking like noise when coasting with the clutch pulled in, in gear. [As in coasting the last few feet to a stop sign.] I'm not sure I even want to know what this may be. Didn't sound too good.

does it shift normal...down shift normal? is there a boly hanging off your tire? please let us know what you discover...

How many miles. Are you the original owner?

Are you aware of the issue the 04's have with the rear hub and bearing?

Don't forget the known problem with the Drive Pulley spinning on the Output Shaft. There was a recall for this on certain VIN numbers. I've got the list of VINs if you want me to check.

The bike has about 23,000 miles on it, runs and shifts fine ; just rode to biketoberfest 2 days ago. It sounds internal. It could possibly be related to the drive pulley , I guess.

If you have easy access to the vin numbers or a link I think it would be worth checking into.

My money is on the clutch is out of adjustment ...2 mm free play max, I have seen/heard this in the past.

My guess is the rear hub. You can put it on a lift and spin the rear wheel to check.

I had been thinking about it last night and I agree with you,2K FANATIC, that it is a clutch issue. Would you know how to adjust it?

You have 2 adjustment points: 1) on the clutch lever and 2) on the left frame rail. I always use the one on clutch lever until I run out of adjustment and then go to the one on the frame rail. Both adjusters you are just shortening or lengthening the cable.

But It would not hurt to get the bike up in the air and check the front and rear hub and output pulley.
