Im not a fan of the stock bobtail-style rear fender on my 98' Vulcan 500 and the paint is really scratched up. I was wondering if anyone has attempted to change out the rear fender. If so how did it turn out and look etc.
The fender was from some kind of harley cruiser but I cut it down to this size to look like the Shadow rs
I agree with you. Way too high up off the rear tire for my preferences plus it takes away from the raked profile of the frame and it looks like a motocross/streetfighter/bobber hybrid.
I usually just cut, fab and weld but most definitely you can fab a rear blank fender to suit your needs. I'd like to see it when you're done so post up when you can.

I was thinking about cutting it just past the little struts. I agree about the different look with it sitting higher and that's actually what I needed with the curve on the King & Queen seat pan and the high sissy bar. I can see where that wouldn't be a preferred look for any other build though. For a bobber it would look hokie IMO.
Couldnt find an 8" rear fender I liked for a price even close to being reasonable ... so I got one from a site that sells parts for trailers. $20!!! The internet is awesome.
Yes I agree with you 100% about the height looking funny! I think it would look much better if I installed some shorter shocks in the back.
But I think I might actually take the exact opposite approach and lift it because I regularly scrape pegs and I would enjoy the little extra clearance. Maybe just go for a kind of flat tracker look
you can get shorter shocks. contact Hagon shocks USA in California (google it) and they can hook you up with some sweet shocks at whatever length you desire.
