Anybody Know if you have to take the pick up coils off the bike to test, or can you do it from the pins on the plug? If your not positive, please don't lead me in the wrong direction. I don't want to chasing ghosts. Thank you for your responses.
Starts but no fire on front cylinder. I pulled the plugs out and they were wet with gas. Spark was very weak. I figured the pick up coils would be a good place to start. I have a feeling I'll have to take them out to meter them. Thanks for the reply.
1998 1500 A12 Vulcan. I couldnt find my spark tester tool, put plug up against the cylinder. Hope I didn't screw any thing up. The spark seemed very weak. The bike will start, but the front pipe doesn't get warm. I dont let it run for long, but the back pipe gets warm. when I pulled the front plugs out they were wet with gas. Kind of clueless on electronic ignitions, Thought pick up coils would be a good place to start. Any help is appreciated. Thank you for your reply.
Good idea! I probrably can't get to it untill this weekend. I'll let you know the out come. Your replys are very much appreciated! I want to get back riding, especially with the gas prices as crazy as they are. Thank you for your help.
I had the same problem with my VN1500A1. The insulation of front spark plug cable was broken. The sparkplug-cap was probabely removed from the spark-plug while the ty-rap underneath the fuel tank was still strapped. This broke the insulation inside wire-mesh.
My hint is to first visually check for any abnormalities
sorry I havn't responded in a while. Finally got out to take a look at it. Got a differant spark tester and found out I do have spark in both cylinders. So started to look at fuel and carbs. Just had carbs gone through last year. turns out the carb on the front cylinder is getting no fuel. Don't know if float is stuck or what. Hope to get to work on it today. Just ain't enough hours in the day sometimes.
im having the same problem. i have pulled the coils and they test good. i have switched the secondary wires and the problem follows the wires. so im thinking its either the pick ups or the cdi. any thoughts?
