Picked up a 93 Vulcan classic a few months ago. 6800 miles, needed a little work, and best part... FREE! Just got her back from a local shop who re-did the carbs, new tires, salvaged the terribly rusted tank, and full service (fliuds, filters, etc). Runs great now and I'm looking forward to bobbing it next.
I don't know much about hydraulic clutches and had a question. It seems the clutch (line) builds pressure and doesn't engage the gears until almost fully released. I noticed the clutch slipping when laying on the gas a little. I opened the banjo bolt on the resevoir side a little and a small burst or fluid shot out. I tightened the bolt and the clutch performed fine (engaged the gears and no slippage).
Can anyone tell me if this is normal or how to fix it...
Remove the clutch master cylinder cover, look down in there, and you will see two tiny holes.
Take a nylon bristle and poke it into the holes to make sure they are clear.
If not done already, you should change the fluid in both the braking systems and the clutch system.
Sorry, its that big chrome cover on the left side of the engine beside the shifter.
If you plan to do your own maintenance, the purchase of a service manual would not be a waste of money. Loads of information for the do-it your selfer.
