Default Adding coolant to a 500

Hey guys , hoping someone can point me in the right direction : how often do you put coolant into the bike and HOW do i access it ? I cant tell if im good and topped off.. What is the recommended type for the bike? What do YOU use ,

I check it everytime I change the oil (3k), and have never had to add any in 12k miles.

You don't say what year your bike is, but with the LTDs - the tank is under the right side of the fuel tank.

You can look up at it with a flashlight from the front to check it. Next time you have the tank off, or if you can reach up in there - make a dark mark across the "full" line of the tank with a black Sharpie. That makes it easier to read from the bottom.

If you are going to add coolant - make sure the container is labeled "mixes with all brands", or you could end up with issues.

Stay away from Dexcool (Dexclog).

Yep, any traditional ethylene glycol antifreeze is perfectly fine. No reason to spend more when the basic stuff is entirely adequate. The cooling system on these doesn't seem to be stressed at all. I've only even seen the fan come on a handful of times on mine.

Black marker is a good idea. Shine a light up into the reservoir from the right side. The level can look falsely low due to a crease in the plastic.
