I redid the top end of my 1988 88se and just found out that I forgot to install one of the 2 locator pins in the top of the head (head to rocker box).Should I take it back apart and put it in,or will it be fine to run?
If it is just a pin to locate the cover and you have no leaks, you shold be fine. If it locates a stressed, or noving part, I would put it in. Am sure your talking about locating the valve cover though, so should be just fine.
No,it goes between the head & the rocker box.The locators are hollow and the head studs go through them. There are 2 on the bottom of the head, that fit into the cylinder. Then there are 2 on the top of the head, that fit into the rocker box (that is where I only have one).
Then I think it would be a good idea to install it. It may be needed to help keep the head from moving around as it heats up and cools. Could shorten head gasket life if not installed.
