Ordered commander ll tires today for my custom. Closest available size for the rear is 170/80/15 as apposed to the 180/70/15. I know they are 10mm narrower and 10mm taller. Has anyone else used this size for rear? What is your opinion?

I have seen some posts over here by folks who used this size. I think the experiences were mostly positive. Someone else also told me that the Commander IIs are great tires.
I did lot of research a few weeks back as I was looking for a better option over the stock Dunlop. I decided for the Bridgestone Exedra MAX - and I could not be happier. What a difference compared to the Dunlops!

I have had a set of commander II's on my LT since early summer and I am very happy with them. The taller profile helped speedometer error and they feel more connected to the road than the oem dunlops.
Thanks for the reply's. I had my head set on the metz's but my bike shop talked me into commander ll's. Stock dunny's still have plenty of tread left at 9k km's but i got the bike at 6k km's and not sure if bike was kept outside alot but there in an abundance of cracks between the tread. I hate not knowing so i will feel better with new rubber being a newb. It will be nice to help correct the speedo thing. Taller profile should help with baron front pulley i ordered aswell to lower rpms a tad on hwy.
I put mine on a couple of months ago and I really love these tires. They are incredible. It rains a LOT here in Louisiana so I wanted a good wet weather tire, and this one is it. I did the front and rear, and while the rear dropped very slightly, it sure feels better. My tires don't wander on tar snakes and gravel like the Dunlops used to. I FEEL safer and the bike handles better, so it's a great deal. You will love them! Avons are good also, but the Michellin tires are a GREAT choice.
Can you possibly show us any pics how the 170/80 tire looks on the bike?
What size did you use in the front?
Strangly enough the 170 is just as wide as the stock dunny 180 but i did read somewhere that the 170 on the stock rim balloons a bit more and even creates a bigger contact path. ( i dont know if thats true but tire is exactly the same distance away as 180 was from belt gaurd)
I put 80/90 on the front as the 90/90 is not availabe for comm ll.
i had to cancell baron front pulley. With the 170 rear tire, i am left with only 1/2 inch clearance on inner fender. The bigger front pulley will shorten belt and move rear tire even more forward and leave no clearance but i should be happy with the difference the bigger tire will make with hwy rpm and speedo correction. I hope.
It's amazing. Indeed, the 170 looks not that narrow at all. I would probably not even say that this is not a stock-size tire.
Is the 0.5 inch inner clearance an issue? It sounds like is getting close, but I guess it is a fixed distance so unless you get a stone or something hard in there, you should be fine, right?
