EN500 slow return to idle (decel)

Don't have another to compare to. Before and after cleaning carbs on new-to-me '07 EN500 w/ 1,300 miles, engine is slow to decelerate after hitting the throttle. Could take as much as three seconds to return to idle from 1/4 throttle. Normal? My Shadow 1100 is not like that. Pops just a tad during decel, also. Observing this both in shop and on the road.

Your running lean.You need to adjust you idle mixture screws.

Check the throttle cables for binding.

Im having the same issue on my 96' en500, let me know if you figure out what was causing it for certain

A hanging idle is very often a result of an intake leak. I would make sure the carbs are seated well against the intake and also against the air box.

Also did you sync the carbs? Im not sure if your cleaning included fully taking them apart or not.

I took them apart, and a few days later had a moto mechanic take them apart. He pulled the choke sliders out and cleaned them up, as well. He still has bike. Yesterday I went to his shop as he tested it. Butterflies are snapping closed at release of throttle. Carbs have been synced (ran it on gauges while I was there). I'm going down there in about two hours from now, just wanted to get some more ideas.

Picked it up a few minutes ago. Mechanic did richen the idle circuit up a bit. Runs great now. No extended decel, either. Now, just need it to warm up a bit so my wife can actually ride her bike. It was 46*, north wind at about 15 mph, and misting rain when I rode it the 15 or so miles home - she won't ride in ANYTHING like that kind of weather!!!!!

A lot of times the idle mixture screws are set to 2 1/2 turns & left.(too lean)Each bike is different & they need to be adjusted with the bike warmed up & running.
