One thing I forgot... moving the mufflers around a lot could have loosened your muffler gaskets as they are somewhat fragile. But when my Venture gaskets made noise it was like a chirp that moaned on a violin string.
Try tightening the gaskets some. Also check the exhaust gaskets at the heads. Those copper gaskets can leak also when disturbed.

Please forgive my ignorance, but I've never removed a set of OEM pipes from a bike. Can you tell me what gaskets you are referring to and where I can locate them?

Okay... I drilled out both of the rear baffle plates on each of the mufflers. I had to buy another 12" arbor extension because I was bottoming out the drill trying to reach the second plate with only one.
Question: Has anyone that has done this experienced a chirping sound on final decel when you roll off the throttle? When I roll on the throttle standing beside the bike, I hear some strange chirping like sound just as the pipes settle down back to idle. For the life of me, I can't tell if this sound is coming from the pipes themselves or I have a mount rattling somewhere near the rear of the bike. Never heard this sound before drilling out the baffle plates.
Both the rear baffles came out in the hole saw. The baffles right behind the cats did not. This is typical from what I understand from others that have drilled them out.

Still considering debaffling the Nomad, have found a diagram of the mufflers, will try & put it up her, bear with me, but am wondering about taking out the cats as well.
Will there be any problems, will I need to get a fuel procesor, not interested in these if not needed.
Thanks in advancer
FammdwMike, did you isolate that chirpping sound? Just had a thought. On my brother-in-las 1100 V-Star with open shotgun pipes, I would hear a low wistle when he was off the throttle at certain speeds. Have heard it on my 800 classic also a time or to. I beleive it the air going through the open pipes, a side effect of less restriction maybe. Almost like a low pressure air line that is open. Any thoughts?
Never did figure out exactly what it was. Got a great deal on a used set of V&Hs. Put those pipes on - problem solved.
I'll say this about debaffled pipes... There is definately an improvement in sound over stock, but it does not hold a candle to the low rumble and tone of aftermarket slip-ons. I'm glad I made the investment in the V&H pipes.
