A bench sync is just getting it as close as you can before you put them on. You can use some sort of feeler gauge. Even as simple as something like a bent paper clip.

I recently de-cal'd my bike. plug the red nipple on your gas tank and pull tube out. leave the blue vent tube back to the rear of the bike in place, detatch from cylinder. detatch tube to air box and plug hole to air box. then pull that squid outta there. not sure on mpg yet.
