dealer near me has a 2010 1700 classic new in the showroom and a few 900s.

See they are out there. I am glad you could find one of them. I still do not see why there are so many of them out there like that. That is fine with me. That is just more bikes for us to pick from. .

My dealer had a list of new bikes available but it looked most were California bikes.

If the California emissions stuff is an issue for you, it CAN be removed. I imagine it's a pain but, given the choice between the bike I want with a bunch of removable junk hanging off of it, and settling for something else, I'll get my tools out!

Mine is not a California bike. It has normal emissions controls.
